Sarah Benham was born in New Orleans and grew up on a farm

in Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Mississippi and taught school in New Orleans before moving to New England in 1971. She studied photography with John Leonard, Arnold Newman, Judy Dater and others. Her photographs are in major museum collections as well as numerous private collections. Benham studied painting with George Dureau, David Loeffler Smith, and John Borowicz. She lives and works in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
